Abstract

The article presents a conception of description and study of human capital from a gender perspective: (i) it has been proposed to address the gender approach only to those research concepts which presume, as an initial matter, that the patriarchal character of culture forms the oldest and widest framework within which societies functioned in the past and function now; (ii) the social origins of human capital have been accentuated, in addition to its individual dimension; (iii) the fact of holding basic human rights i.e. social laws and personal freedoms has been pointed out as the main determinant of the processes of human capital accumulation, valuation and investment; (iv) it has been suggested to include in the definition of human capital (apart from the education, practical skills and the health state) those categories by which society defines and differentiates people constructing cultural gender concepts that is human personality traits and features of appearance; (v) finally, there has been indicated the necessity to perceive the accumulation, valuation and investment of human capital in a broad context of simultaneous and interrelated processes of: lasting / erosion of patriarchy as well as realising egalitarianisation, specifically the process of subjectification of women and redefining the men’s role and place in society with reference to the end of their exclusive subjective status. In conclusion a hypothesis is formulated that in the society exemplifying the ‘patriarchal democracy’ there are cracks in the, typical of patriarchal model, monolith: sex – gender.
