Abstract

The aim of the work is to understand and describe the initially observed mechanism, according to which the state does not seem to notice the needs of indigenous women and does not take them into account in institutional and legal solutions. In the work, I indicate to what extent these conditions are conducive to maintaining cultural diversity – in the examined case in the form of traditional (or alternative) solutions in the approach to health. In the article, I take a closer look at the conditions of the democratic system and its connections with human rights and outline the causes and mechanisms of machismo and feminism in Mexico, showing the most important sources of the complicated situation of women in this country. As part of the same considerations, I also indicate why – from the point of view of cultural relativism - attempts to introduce some Western solutions in the field of democracy and human rights may be not only ineffective, but also controversial and problematic for Mexicans. Theoretical and problematic considerations constitute an introduction to a case study devoted to the phenomenon of medical pluralism in Mexico.
