Morality ‒ a Rescue or a Hindrance for Modern-Day Man? The Description of the Status Quo and the Analysis of Changes

The article discusses changes in morality encompassing the transition from modern to postmodern society as well as the primary and secondary causes of these changes. The description of the determinants which condition the said changes boils down to the characteristics of aporia: globalization, freedom, individualism, mediatisation and technicization as well as the processes of increasing pragmatization of social life which is conducive to technical development and which is transforming human mentality and morality itself. The central point of the article is that the development of information technology exerts an influence on the scope of individual freedom which poses a threat of limiting this freedom as well as human individuality and thus de facto of eliminating morality itself, understood as an emanation of free moral entities. The author of the article presents possible scenarios of further changes in morality as well as the chances of its revival lying in the increase in significance of the moral autonomy of people and in appealing to their ethical predisposition.
