Fire station as an element of the cultural landscape of small towns (on the examples of selected structures from the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century from the area of Greater Poland)

Abstract

From the middle of the 19th century onwards, fire stations began to permanently enter the cultural landscape of small towns, developing their place alongside churches, town halls, and other public buildings over the next century. They were often built as close to the market square as possible, sometimes in the very centre of the town. Larger structures were located on the edge of the old town or in new neighbourhoods. Their architecture has frequently embellished the space around them.
