Abstract

The article attempts to examine Gert Biesta’s key concepts of the fundamental tasks of general education and the role of educational actors, considering them in the context of trust and distrust. Biesta’s key concepts – education as risk and learning and teaching world-centred education, defined as the contemporary orientation of education towards the world – continue to inspire researchers from a variety of cultural backgrounds. This text summarises these concepts in order to propose the hypothesis that the Dutch scholar’s educational approach necessitates an attitude of trust towards the world and other people. The text identifies attempts to trace the issue of trust/distrust in Biesta’s thinking, seeking analogies and references to other texts – mainly those of the philosopher Karol Tarnowski and the social psychologist Ivana Marková.
