Abstract

The article analyses the social context of abortion and its impact on family relations. The purpose of the research, carried out in a qualitative approach, is to capture the subtle aspects of abortion as an event that affects the quality of a family’s functioning. A detailed aspect of the research refers to abortion as a factor shaping the adult daughter’s biographical experiences and her relationship with her parents. The text discusses the structure of categories generated from the research material, as well as two aspects of the subject matter, which include: abortion as a biographical experience, and the importance of the awareness of the fact of a sibling’s abortion for the quality of the Narrator’s family relationships. The research conclusion draws attention to the social and existential dimension of the abortion experience, as well as its importance in stimulating the Narrator’s self-creative work on her spiritual development

Author Biographies

Arkadiusz Wąsiński, Uniwersytet Łódzki

Arkadiusz Wąsiński is a postdoctoral fellow employed as a professor at the University of Lodz. Since 2020, he has been serving as Vice-Dean for Educational Quality at the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of Lodz. He develops his scientific and research interests primarily in the area of adult self-creation as an existentially momentous biographical experience, and in this context, self-creation for parenthood and existential problems of aging and old age. Honored with the “Award for Outstanding Monograph” in 2019 by the Board of Directors of the Academic Andragogical Society.
Kamila Rzosińska, Centrum Psychologiczno-Pedagogiczne Futurum w Łodzi

Kamila Rzosińska has a master’s degree in special education. She is also a specialist in human resources management and a behavioral therapist. Since 2004, she has been working with children with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities as well as their families. Currently, she is employed at the Futurum Psychological and Pedagogical Center in Lodz as a substantive coordinator. Her scientific and research interests are related to self-creation processes and biographical learning.
