Abstract

The growing importance of the passive portfolio management is one of the most important trends in the international financial market in the last two decades. Its reflection is, observed mainly in the United States, dynamic growth of assets of index investment funds, exchange traded funds and – to a lesser extent – other financial instruments such as exchange-traded products. This phenomenon also affects the various aspects of the functioning of the whole financial market and some of its segments. It leads, inter alia, to increase the degree of correlation between different financial instruments, changes the shape of the asset management sector and stimulates the development of the index industry.
