2025 Journal Citation Reports (Web of Science)

Clarivate has released the 2025 Journal Citation Reports, which include bibliometric data for journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection.  We are proud to announce that Text Matters maintained its strong presence in the academic landscape, with continued positive trends in its key bibliometric indicators.

What is the Journal Citation Indicator? 

The Journal Citation Indicator (JCI) is a bibliometric measure also derived from data in the Web of Science database. 

In contrast to CiteScore and the Journal Impact Factor (JIF), the JCI is a field-normalised metric. To account for disciplinary differences in citation practices, each article’s citation count is compared to the average number of citations for all articles within the same subject category indexed in the Web of Science. 

Additionally, the normalisation process considers the publication age of articles (the citation window). The JCI is calculated using citations to articles published within the three years preceding the evaluation period. This approach ensures equitable comparison among journals and mitigates the advantage held by older publications that have had more time to accrue citations. 

Interpretation of the JCI 

A JCI value of 1.0 signifies that a journal has achieved the average citation rate for all articles in its subject category during the designated period. 

A value greater than 1.0 indicates that the journal is cited more frequently than the average for its field. 

Conversely, a value below 1.0 reflects a citation rate lower than the field average.
