In accordance with the recommendations stipulated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the amended Higher Education Act, we apply the principles of publishing ethics, following the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). In September 2018, COPE and the University of Łódź concluded an agreement, which is an expression of appreciation for the publishing policy implemented for our journals.

COPE, which federates 10,000 members representing all academic branches from around the world, provides publishers with expertise in publishing ethics, offers advice on how to react to violations, and constitutes a forum where its members can exchange knowledge and experience by presenting specific cases regarding ethical issues.

For authors and reviewers, COPE membership is a guarantee that a publisher maintains the highest ethical standards and follows the rules stipulated within COPE’s code of practice.

Review Process

The editorial board has applied the reviewing guidelines as recommended by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education:

  1. A publication is assessed by two independent reviewers from outside the university department, and both the authors’ and reviewers’ identities remain concealed (double-blind review).
  2. The review focuses on the substantive value of the text (the level of subject innovativeness, the originality and the completion of the research assumptions, the use of the subject literature and references to the existing state of research, clarity and cohesion of reasoning, and the linguistic quality of the article).

The review is compiled in writing and contains an explicit recommendation regarding the acceptance or rejection of the article for publication (cf. review form).

  1. The list of collaborating reviewers shall be made public once a year, in the end-of-the-year volume of the periodical and posted online in the last quarter of any given year.
  2. As far as texts in foreign languages are concerned, one of the reviewers should be affiliated with an institution located in a different country than the institution which employs the author.
