The need for reform of the regional policy in Ukraine: European orientation

Abstract

The article put in the center of analysis some critical issues of Ukrainian system of regional executives and local self-government. They have been considered throughout the whole period of National Independence. Main focus is made on the regional policy legal and institutional foundations in Ukraine as well as their unresolved issues. The importance of the EU member-states experience with regard to reforms and activity of regional executives and activity of local self-government institutes is underlined in the text. The author also paid a tribute towards positive sample of administrative-territorial reforms realized in Poland in 1990th.
