Artykuł przedstawia założenia teoretyczne i implikacje praktyczne nowego kierunku badawczego w geografii turyzmu, jakim jest geoekologia turystyki. Omówiono w nim podstawy teoretyczno-metodologiczne tego kierunku, jego powiązania z innymi dziedzinami wiedzy, zarówno przyrodniczymi, jak społecznymi, oraz perspektywy dalszego rozwoju, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem znaczenia badań geoekologieznych jako podstawy obiektywnych ocen warunków przyrodniczych miejsc uprawiania turystyki.
