The basic theses of a semantic and cognitive approach to study of metaphors, developed by the author, are set forth in the article. This approach implies interpretation of metaphor as a mental and verbal construct. The principles, methods and technique of the corpus semantic and cognitive analysis of metaphors research are described, the prospects of its development are outlined.
