Abstract

THERESA HANNIG'S science fiction novel depicts people living together in peace in the future. This article examines whether and to what extent HANNIG'S literary concept is compatible with the postulates of conviviality. It also asks whether this model does not mean rejecting the hope that people are capable of voluntarily curbing their own impulses in favour of the common good. Can we only be saved by the intervention of an AI? To what extent is this AI not to be seen as part of the Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde complex, of human duality? Where is responsibility located in this blurring of the subject-object boundary? How is freedom defined?

Author Biography

Carme Bescansa, Universität des Baskenlandes

Dr. phil., Studium der Germanistik an der Universität Santiago de Compostela. Dozentin seit 2001 an der Universität des Baskenlandes, Koordinatorin des Fachbereichs Germanistik. An mehreren Projekten sowie als Mitglied der Forschungsgruppe IDEOLIT der Universität des Baskenlandes tätig. Bisherige Forschungsschwerpunkte: Genderund Machtdiskurse in der Moderne und in der Postmoderne, Judentum und Weiblichkeit, Heimat & Spatial Turn, Emotional Turn, Gedächtnis. In den letzten Jahren forschte und publizierte sie zu Themen der deutschsprachigen Literatur Ostmitteleuropas, Konvivialismus, Posthumanismus, Migration und Transnationalität in der Literatur des 21. Jh. Zu Autor_innen wie Kathrin Röggla, Terézia Mora, Theresa Hannig, Vladimir Vertlib, Libuše Moníková u.a.
