“Decolonize your mind” – Narrative strategies of disempowerment of race and whiteness in MITHU SANYAL’S Identitti and SHIDA BAZYAR’S Drei Kameradinnen

This article aims to illustrate the influence of postcolonial studies, critical whiteness studies and black studies on postmigrant literature. Using the novels Identitti by MITHU SANYAL and Drei Kameradinnen by SHIDA BAZYAR as examples, it analyses the extent to which emancipation processes can be observed in the characters, which amount to a decolonization of thought. A particular focus is on the question of the narrative means by which whiteness and race are disempowered and the characters regain the power of interpretation over their perception and identity.
